Americans Support Wind Energy Development

Polls consistently show that nearly nine out of ten voters believe increasing the amount of energy the nation gets from wind is a good idea. Wind power doesn’t just generate electricity, it powers economic development. It adds a new source of steady income to family farmers’ bottom line. It opens the doors of factories previously mothballed. It sends clean, home-grown energy to our homes and businesses, while protecting family budgets and small businesses from volatile price spikes.

Global climate change is a top concern of consumers around the world - and research shows that they'd be more likely to purchase products made with clean energy. Indiana utility companies such as Indianapolis Power and Light, and Duke Energy already offer their customers “green power” alternatives.

Manufacturers and businesses also want to move away from dirty coal and boast about their use of clean, renewable energy, by placing labels on consumer products touting their clean energy commitments.

Companies can be responsible and still make money. Google is a $168 billion business and uses lots of electricity. They’re putting their money where its mouth is however, by investing in big wind projects and rooftop solar power initiatives. In 2010, Google says it got 25 percent of its electricity from renewable sources like wind and solar. They anticipate that will rise to 30 percent this year and aims to hit 35 percent in 2012. Google tries to buy electricity directly from wind farms near its datacenters.
